Forex Analysts – What's With The Suits And Ties?

I’ve spent some time poking around the forex / financial blogosphere this morning, eyeing up the competition, looking to see what “everybody else” has got to say.

The one thing that jumped out at me immediately (aside from the completely boring and lifeless reiteration of the same levels / numbers/ line over and over again) was the ridiculous number of these fellows all dressed up in suits and ties!

Is it a credibility thing? Are successful forex traders all supposed to look like “carbon copy pencil pushers wearing radio shack suits?”

A forex “analyst” is most certainly not a forex “trader” and I think it’s important to draw the distinction as……until you’ve fallen into the belly of the beast and wrestled “your own” physcology….until you’ve conquered both greed  and fear with your stomach in knots for days on end.Until you’ve contemplated “flipping burgers at McDonald’s” short of grinding out that next turn.

Until you’ve lost nearly  “anything and everything” that was ever important to you – in the pursuit of greatness…..

You can keep your desk job bro. Pacing your cubicle working for pennies, drawing horizontal lines and charts for your boss…

You “are not” a trader.

    Kong,
I’m mortified you have a grudge against suits – Lol. My pic on FF shows me in one, mainly because its an old pic but also because I’m a business advisor to some corporates besides attempting to be a forex trader. Please don’t exclude all suits, because at my current rate of trading progress I’ll need to wear it for a while yet!
Seriously though, totally agree on the analysts. Seeing other excellent traders in the blogosphere in t shirts puts the process in excellent perspective, as do your jungle shots.
    Good post – as usual.

It’s all in fun Deano as – I “once wore the suit” as well!

Seriously……it’s tough sledding here over the weekends as far blog / content goes so…the odd “casual observation” sneaks in here once in a while.

By the looks / performance of your trading here as of late…..perhaps indeed – your days “in suit” are numbered!

Thanks Kong. My trading has certainly been influenced in part by your sage observations, and I suspect our trading systems and signals are not dissimilar anyway, so I’m looking forward to the day (not far off I feel) when the suits go into the back of the closet. Until then I’m reading every post here and contributing when I can, cheers.

They exist within an ad driven business and much like FF, it’s full of crap.

He he he well…….not to “go there” as much as……

I see the term “analyst” thrown around as to suggest that these guys have some “better idea than most” as to what’s what with a given currency or pair.

When we consider that technical analysis can be learned by anyone in a very short time, and that “the news” is available to everyone “every day”….what else is there?

As “we” all know – It’s the “real money physcology” and the mastery of ones emotions that makes the trader.

Anybody can draw lines on a chart, and that’s not enough to get me signed up.

An “analyst” is no different to my “woodwork teacher” in lower high school.

He IS a “person” who had finished an apprenticship in his trade, but has never “practiced” his trade.

My woodwork teacher in primary school was an alcoholic, but nonetheless a nice guy, but he was a failure at his proffession.

I didn’t answer that quite right… I see “analysts” as theorists who don’t have the nuts (balls, cahoona’s, testicles) to pony up and make money based on their analysis.

Yeah, it’s for credibility. Just like a rapper has got to wear baggy jeans and basketball shirts.
But honestly I like wearing a suit myself.
