Why Isn't Fukushima Front Page News?

I’ve learned everything, I’ve read everything – but I still haven’t “heard” anything!

What the hell is going on? I mean seriously!

We’ve got the Golden Globes front and center on a typical Sunday night here in the West, while a population of 13 Million people in Tokyo sit quietly unaware of the looming disaster only 150 miles away!

150 miles! Can you even imagine! A nuclear accident / disaster that makes Chernobyl look like a beach BBQ, and you’ve got an entire population ( not to mention an entire planet now that Japan has passed the laws “forbidding reporting” on the incident ) sitting in the dark!

Obama and the boys in Britain, France, Canada have sent millions in aid and stepped right up to help  tiny African countries work thru civil “disputes” ( not taking anything away from the horrors there in ) as well helped any number of countries through “national disasters” at the drop of a hat!!

How the hell can the entire world continue to turn a blind eye to what’s really going on in Japan?

It’s like sitting at home in Seattle, and the nuke site is in Vancouver – that close ( with winds blowing at a modest 6 km/h)…..and you’re not making plans to move????

Unreal…..we’ve seen more coverage of a “f$&kin cat stuck down a storm drain” than that of the largest industrial disaster known to mankind, let alone the largest impending threat to our human existence! Where are the news helicopters? Where’s the “minute to minute coverage” of the attempted removal of fuel rods etc?? Where’s the “evacuation plan” when ALL OF JAPAN needs to get off the rock?

How can this not be considered a “global event”? And immediately take the attention of the planets top ranking / thinking / experts in the field to “get their asses over there” and get this thing figured out!

I can’t believe that I will actually have to cross off one of the most highly anticipated travel / food / cultural adventures of my “proposed” future now knowing what I know.

I will never get to sit at “Nobu” in Tokyo and stuff my self to the gills with the finest sushi on the planet, and worse yet – I won’t be able to take anyone to enjoy it with me.

Japan now  – “officially” off limits.

Unreal. I am beyond sad.

Ya its sad stuff. For sure I want to travel to Japan but won’t for a very long time if ever now. The containment of contaminated water, which is still being produced everyday, is suspect and could become a problem any time so until that’s dealt with I’ll stay away from there. And food due to accumulation and concentration through the food chain is done. Even if tested I’m still going to be concerned and paranoid. The biggest let down for me is just enjoying the daily activity of the ocean. There are so many reports coming in of the ocean seeming lifeless. My brother has video footage of a pod of killer whales swimming with our boat. Males out front…females flanking the side and a young one with mom. So damn cool man. They swam with us for a good 15 minutes. That kind of thing has a strong chance of not happening much as the years go on. Not acceptable at all.

All of this stuff adds up to more yen damage in the future too. Hooped. Liking the action tonight though.

Hope you had a good weekend, Kong

Patience here as AUD us setting up for one hell of a short opportunity across the board.

I don’t expect this bounce to last much longer, and am eyeing AUD vs CAD, USD, JPY , CHF – you name it.

I have a condo in Tokyo and have just returned from a short trip there.
There is very little news anywhere on the disaster, aside from a few brief shows on tv. The blogs are quite active with news.
Life is going on as normal. My heart goes out to the locals – But I guess there is not much the average japanese can do.
I always wodered why TEPCO management is not in jail – most of the managers have resigned and are now living comfortably overseas.
    Very scary indeed.

$taurt – what are the people saying about the new laws? Is the general public at all concerned?? Or are they actually just assuming everything is going to be fine? ( which we know is impossible ).

Fukushima has only just begun, aside from the “intital plume” etc – the continued leakage of harmful particles will continue for years! Not to mention they are really just a single earthquake ( 95% of happening within in the next 3 years ) of the entire thing falling into the ocean.

The storage “farm” ( as it’s now become ) is said to be extrememly unreliable, and the leakage from reactors is said to have hit the water table some time ago.

There is no clean up / strategy known to modern man, aimed at / geared towards repairing”that”.

      Oh man……..

Let us know anything and everything you can $tuart – please!

I agree completely about the disaster. The only reason that I can fathom why our governments aren’t addressing the issue is that panic would ensue. I live on the west coast, USA, and don’t know what to do about our getting the radiation from Fukushima. It’s not that easy to “up and leave.” Plus, we’ve already been exposed to the fallout and eating the food grown here – I can’t help but think it’s too late.

I mentioned to some relatives at Christmas who are trying to plan an ocean-side vacation this summer, don’t take the kids in the water. I already know they think I’m strange because I’ve been warning of the coming financial crisis for so long. There are just too many other things about which they have to worry.

    What would you do?

      Diana.

The West Coast of both U.S and Canada ( and Mexico too! ) will be and “is” obviously affected, but I don’t feel there is an immediate sense of urgency, short of us hearing ( hoping that we do ) that indeed they’ve dropped a fuel rod, or that Reactor 4 has gone “nuclear” etc..

The question you raise is exactly the question that needs to be asked as…..the majority of people “simply cannot imagine live altering events happening to them / in their lifetime” and “will not take action in advance” much like a frog in boiling water as the heat is slowly turned higher…until of course it’s too late. The West Coast of North America hasn’t seen anything yet, with respect to the true nature of what will come in the following years.

I guess as with trading / investing one needs to gather as much information as they can , and look to make an informed decision. Then follow through with conviction. Of course it’s hard. It’s practically impossible.
